Narrative Assignment A Taxi Cab - 1199 Words

The narrative assignment I have in mind is to follow a scene of two characters in a taxi cab. The premise is that the taxi driver is an eastern European immigrant in a college town, waiting to receive a call and when he does it is a young, drunk, male college student. The idea is that the taxi driver comes from an impoverished town, with influence from the decaying conditions of Eastern Ukraine from Russia. He is a middle-aged man with a wife and kids who come to the town (based entirely on London) to seek better living conditions than his previous home. He seems to be a cheerful character and upbeat despite his living situation. It is late at night when he gets the call from the college student. The college student lives a stereotypical†¦show more content†¦They either are scared to show these colours in public or are afraid to admit that they are struggling with these issues so they may turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with the pain, only leading them to a downward spiral . I’m gonna try and bring out the truth many teenagers are facing with the college student character. The reason why many people judge this generation in the first place is that people throw them under the â€Å"millennial† stereotype. Which ends up with older generations blaming millennials for their misfortune on their laziness, attitude, and lack of work ethic when in almost all cases that is not true, they work harder than most previous generations before them. The reason for the distinct taxi driver character is to symbolize older generations, but not the ones that stereotype the millennials. The taxi driver is a struggling middle-aged immigrant because it allows for him to sympathize with the college student. He does not have many of these prejudices in his home country as everybody there is struggling. He understands what it is like to work extremely hard and have obstacles in the way. The dialogue will also present the clash of cultures from the Western societi es compared to the eastern European societies. The taxi driver will serve as a sort of father figure for theShow MoreRelated Imposing Our Own Ideological Frameworks onto Virginia Woolf and Her Writing3784 Words   |  16 PagesLesbian Panic: Homoeroticism in Modern British Womens Fiction, Patricia Juliana Smith argues that, The difficulty - if not the impossibility - of defining who or what is Ôlesbian undermines the surety and clarity that the structures and role assignments of institutional heterosexuality assume to provide (14). Years ago, I never would have thought that I would be attending college. So much happened so quickly after high school that I just gave up on thinking that college was for me. Today, I hold my dreams in my hands. Antonius Werink Margaret Jefferson Case Free Essays

Contrariwise, training and developing Hart, if even possible, could turn out to be costly as well. Therefore, I recommend Margaret Jefferson to find a better fit for this crucial position, meaning letting him go. At the moment Hart is still in his probationary period, making it less costly to let him go. We will write a custom essay sample on Antonius Werink Margaret Jefferson Case or any similar topic only for you Order Now Furthermore, I suggest to replace Hart by the administrative manager for the short term. For the long term, the administrative manager could train the intern and prepare him for the job and the specific tasks. Question 2 Three recommendations Margaret Jefferson should follow: 1) Straight to the point. 2) Offer help. ) Be professional. When meeting with Hart, Jefferson should immediately make clear what the purpose of the meeting is. She should know what she wants to say and communicate this directly with Hart. There’s no need to go into detail about the reasons for the termination. The reasons should be clear, since Hart was constantly informed about his performance and had enough time and possibilities to improve it; There shouldn’t be an argument or discussion. Furthermore, Jefferson should make clear all the details of the separation, meaning all the steps they have to take (e. G. Clearing out their workspace, signing legally binding agreements, etc. ). Moreover, Jefferson is not firing Hart because she doesn’t like him. In fact, Jefferson is actually convinced of his interpersonal capabilities. Therefore, she might want to help Hart in finding a job, which would fit him and his capabilities better. Jefferson could maybe recommend him to some other companies. Finally, Jefferson should be aware Of the fact that she’s acting in the best interest Of the company. The lay-off is not personal, but just business. Jefferson is responsible for the performance of the company and the employees, thus if those are failing, so is she. Question 3 The failure of hiring Hart and its particular hiring process, exposes some inaccuracies in the hiring protocol Jefferson used. Firstly, there was too little emphasis on the administrative skills of Hart, although this is extremely important for the position. Secondly, the decision about hiring Hart was made too fast. Thirdly, the communication and cooperation between Jefferson and the administrative manager was deficient. In order to improve these three points recommend the following: 1) Align the hiring protocol with the specific job. Different jobs require different capabilities. The emphasis in the ease of Hart should have been more on administrative skills and interpersonal skills, rather than only on interpersonal skills. 2) Don’t rush the hiring process. Although the need of hiring a Special Events Manager was urgent, they never should have rushed the process. If Jefferson would have followed all the steps of her hiring protocol she may have discovered Hart Was lacking vital administrative skills at an earlier Stage. 3) Include the administrative manager more in the hiring process. Including the administrative manager more in the hiring process, could have prevented Jefferson from hiring an incapable Special Events Manager. The administrative manager is better aware of the specific administrative capabilities needed for the specific job. How to cite Antonius Werink Margaret Jefferson Case, Papers

Reflection paper on organizational behavior free essay sample

The main objective of this semester was to learn various organizational behaviors that are conducted in a business environment outside the classroom; these would help us as students and as future business entrepreneurs. Throughout the semester, every week different professors came and gave us lectures. Each lecture was about different topic with professors of different departments. Along with the weekly lectures we also had an interactive session that gave us the opportunity to apply the lessons and techniques learnt in our professional and personal lives. Over the course of this semester, Organizational Behavior has highlighted numerous topics, which concentrated on the perception of individual’s personality impacts on the day-to-day changes that occur in an organization. Reflection on the concepts in the field of organizational behavior, the future of management, the cases discussed in class and interactive and their application in the business world is key to a successful business entrepreneur. We will write a custom essay sample on Reflection paper on organizational behavior or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In this reflection paper, I will discuss the essential areas of organizational behavior: the influence of motivation, managing change and individual learning at an organization. Week 2, the lecture on motivation is of great importance; Motivation is the intensity, direction and persistence of reaching a goal. There is a substantial positive relation among job characteristics, job satisfaction and motivation. It states that many theories of motivations are used in a business organization and all have been designed for one purpose, to recognize what motivates and enhances the performance of employees. It is important for a business to identify factors relating to motivation that could affect the competiveness in the market, and implement ways to enhance the business performance. This not only applies to business but also to our academic/personal lives. In the book, it explains how there are different theories of motivation and how different organizations have a completely different approach to motivating their employees. In my view there are intrinsic and extrinsic factors are correlated. For example: during my  lectures we should have a bit more control in class that keeps us engaged giving the student more choice of assignment or problems to solve which will keep us motivated to engage in the class and do better. Week 3, the lecture on Managing Change describes organizational changes that occur when a company makes a shift from its current state to some preferred future state. Managing organizational change is the process of planning and implementing change in organizations in such a way as to decrease employee resistance and cost to the organization while concurrently expanding the effectiveness of the change effort. Todays business environment requires companies to undergo changes almost constantly if they are to remain competitive. Students of organizational change identify areas of change in order to analyze them. A manager trying to implement a change, no matter how small, should expect to encounter some resistance from within the organization. Week 9 lecture on Individual learning we came across that in an organization learning derives from the individual learning from each member of the organization. Consequently, individual learning is crucial for organizational learning. Learning is defined as gaining knowledge or skill. Thus, learning incorporates two meaning 1) knowing how-to which is implies the ability to act and 2) Know-why, which shows the ability to express theoretical understanding of an knowledge. For example: guest speaker to motivate students. So this describes the individual learning is both operant and conceptual learning the difference is important because each learning has a different approach to perceive situations. The material in this course will give me an excellent balance between theory and practice. This course introduced me to the theories that have created solid advances in the field of organizational behavior. The examples and cases throughout the course show the practical side of these theories in terms of how you can manipulate them to enhance competitive advantage in an organization. This course has helped me become more self aware of how capable we could be in an organization how our behaviors is related to motivation and the organizational environment that we work in. I would like  to be an interactive teacher because it will keep the students interested what I am teaching them and since I have their interest more about what I am saying and about what the course is about.
